Web TV & then some
For
me, the most entertaining and skillful footballer that
I have ever seen was a wee lad from Belfast, George
Best.
The frist football superstar had it all, including
birds, booze, fast cars and the most superb balance
I’ve ever seen ona football field.
While in America I had the privilege to see Pele,
Muller, Cruyf, Marsh and many others, but George sood
out from the rest. Not only that but I enjoyed a beer
with him in Toronto and a Bottled water many years
later when he returned to County Down in Northern
Ireland for some rest and relaxation, with his former
wife Angie.
I was fortunite to be a photographer back in 1988 at
his Testimonial at Windsor Park in Belfast. Even then,
he was something special. Someday soon those
photographs shall also grace the pages of this site.
This little video is perhaps a reminder, or an eye
opener to a footballer who, didn’t dive (EVER), cheat,
had lumps licked out of him every week, played with a
heavy ball in basic boots on fields akin to Sunday
league pitches by today’s standards and who saw himself
as an entertainer and not an overpaid poser like so mny
of today’s ‘superstars, many of whom, would never get
into a team in an era that contained the likes of Best,
Charlton, Law, Hurst, Peters, Cooke, Osgoode, Astle,
Jennings, Banks, Moore, Styles, Bremner, Clarke, Bell,
Summerbee and many other ‘real’ players from a bygone
age.
Sadly George passed away at the age of just 59. He may
be gone but never forgotten.
